All festivals around this time of year are about light. Christmas, Hanukkah, Yule, Saturnalia — Diwali too, a little earlier. The Winter Solstice, or Longest Night, sees the turning point where the days begin to lengthen again. More hours of daylight. The Reurn of the Sun in the cycle of seasons/wheel of the year in ancient religions — or, the Birth of the Son (of god) in Christianity. All religions have common roots, similar mythologies and festivals if you care to look close enough.

It’s a bit rich coming off all indignant about ‘anti-Christian propaganda’ to be honest. There’s not even anything anti-Christian about pointing out the older roots of these celebrations and traditions. To say something predates Christianity is not inherently a criticism of that religion, merely pointing out that sometimes your celebrations and traditions mirror others. Whatever you believe, that is absolutely true.
