As a person looking on from the outside (though I fear that the UK is sliding in the same direction), right from their initial campaign for political control in 2016 I have been of the opinion that, while Trump is disastrous for the US and the world in general, he is a thoughtless, idiotic, walking, talking loud-mouthed ego, but Mike Pence is truly, viciously, hateful and dangerous — and worse, he is openly proud to be so. I was raised Christian and, though I no longer consider myself to be so, if I were to invoke imagery and terminology from that ideology and belief system, I would immediately be drawn to the picture of the devil whispering poison into a malleable ruler’s ear from behind the throne. In short, Mike Pence truly scares me. Despite his loud claims of closeness to his god, to me he is much more of a devil in disguise.
