While her relationship with her body and gender are described well in sense of interior states (stomach churning, shame, fear, and queasiness), the book fails to give us a believable sense of how this kid elaborates her thoughts around the topic. Do you think that this could perhaps be attributed to the author not actually being transgender themselves? Perhaps this is the kind of character which should be left to #ownvoices to be sure to achieve a satisfactory degree of realism?
