I find myself in the position of both agreeing and disagreeing with a lot of the things you say in this article.

If everything you find important is rooted in a blinkered, selfish attitude ….if you expect a life filled with everything good for yourself and care little or think not at all about how others fare …. then yes, absolutely; but surely having a social conscience and wanting things like a universal living wage, having the belief that you — *and everyone else on the planet*— does deserve a certain standard of living can provide the answer?

In this scenario your lottery winner still maintains the challenge of how best to use their money to help improve the lot of others as well as themselves. (Also, the capping of lottery wins so that there is more to devote to charities/the general improvement of life for everyone would help!)

The question is, how to cultivate social responsibility over blind self centred egoism.
