Watership Down though. I was such a sensitive child and that book is positively traumatic reading. I cried so much I can feel the memory beginning to prickle at my tear ducts.
I did really enjoy this exploration of the human suspicion of intelligence through literary texts though.
(Not to blow my own trumpet, but I can attest to the cruelty both children and adults can turn upon intelligence - and the way exclusion is often used to punish and set aside intelligent people.)
I also enjoyed the way you depicted both East and West, showing this phenomena to be more than a just a Western attitude. Sometimes, cultural heritage really doesn't divide us, unfortunately.
