I'm 20 years past these moments but recognised them with a viscerally raw reaction of clenching stomach, welling eyes and soppy, fond smile. I remember how hard it is - and I had only myself to rely on, kudos to you and every other father who recognises that fatherhood involves presence and hands-on commitment from the very first breath that baby takes!

And it's true you know, you do grow to miss it.
