I too celebrate the Solstice (in England)), though for me it remains very much a solitary event as my family aren't interested sadly.
For me this is a very important time of year which I like to honour. One of my favourite refrains is that 'without darkness, there can be no light'. As you say, it's balance, equality and acceptance which honour Life. And you need to be slowed down to appreciate that, can't grasp any deep significance at breakneck speed doing copious amounts of shopping for the holidays!
