My sense it that it represents the cold sterility of metal medical implements. The part on top looks like it MIGHT be an early 20th century speculum, to me.
A traumatic painting for sure, it's hard to look at, but as with all of Frida Kahlo's work, there's certainly a message there. I love her work, this is a painting you don't see too often, but I'm glad you highlighted it, thank you - the essay fits our prompt perfectly too.
