No surprise at all, having been best friend, listening ear, shoulder to cry on, surrogate mother, big sister, confidante (etc) to many men over my 50+ years of life.
Men are human and have emotions just as women do. It’s the culture of ‘boys don’t cry’, ‘man up’ and ‘stiff upper lip’ (to throw in a thoroughly British one) that does the damage and desperately needs to change. The stereotyping and expectations are too much, for both men snd women. Perhaps if we were all more accepting of and open to the more sensitive and vulnerable emotional life of men, those who are angry and violent might not become that way, having being able to express their feelings rather than bottle them up from early life.
