The background piece intrigues me too! It reminds me of all kinds of things: art made with nails and string or thread; blades of grass; lines on a polygraph test; teeth; and for some odd reason, people in a row holding hands.....

And I can make all of these have relevance to the crocheted cocoon and the life you've ascribed to it here, if I think hard enough I could write a whole stack of book about the combination of the two - some of them children's picture books...
