This always happens to me. I hate doing it, but I often mention my education/employment record just to get people to stop treating us like 'dole scum' (including welfare assessors).
I'm living with multiple chronic health issues myself and looking after my partner who is more severely physically disabled due to a long term ill health. We claim disability benefits for him and only carer's allowance for me. (Which is frankly the least we can get by on, I could really be claiming disability for myself too at this point).
The way we have been treated by both health professionals and welfare staff is disgusting.
There is such a small percentage of people who claim disability fraudulently, yet that seems to be the starting assumption.
I genuinely hate myself for doing it, because people shouldn't be treated like that, no matter what their social status and background is! Yet I feel like I have to disclose our status prior to claiming or falling ill, because otherwise I am genuinely unsure whether they would give either of us the help we need.
