I actually feel that is more of the weight I would be giving this title - ' The Estranged', because it's more descriptive of how Meursault comes across to me. He is estranged from his emotional equilibrium (perhaps sanity, we know grief can loosen us from our wits), estranged from faith and care for law and morality. Estranged from Maman too I guess, and wants to again be closer through his own death.
